Technical Planner

Job Summary

MLT is seeking a Technical Planner with experience in the telecommunications industry. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and demonstrate a strong technical aptitude with a willingness to continually gain knowledge in the evolving telecommunications industry.

 

This position is client-facing and requires collaborating within a strong team environment. It also requires the successful candidate to work from Vancouver to provide solutions to clients in that area.

Job Duties

  • Provide support on client-driven design projects.

  • Ability to write, read and comprehend technical documents and apply the information.

  • Perform site surveys to assess space for equipment installation or to audit space to ensure records are accurate.

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and fix problems encountered prior to or during the design phase.

  • Complete work on time, on the scope, and within budget to ensure company objectives are met.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ensure that communication with clients and peers is done in a professional manner.

  • Learn to adapt to new technologies and standards in a changing client environment.

  • Update records when required.

  • Show a strong work ethic with attention to detail.

  • Participate in project management responsibilities that relate to scope, time, cost, and quality.

  • Adhere to all applicable Health and Safety regulations, as per company policy.

  • Be willing to undertake other tasks or responsibilities, within your skillset, that would benefit MLT and could help you grow within the company.

 

Requirements

  • College Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Engineering field

  • Ability to develop and implement strategies.

  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.

  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail required.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Visio.

  • Excellent time and project management skills.

  • Attention to detail in all areas of work.

  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.

  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures

  • Motivated individual with proven initiative.

 

Technical skills in the following would be an asset

  • CATV

  • HFC

  • Optical Nodes

  • Optical Transmitters and Receivers

  • RFoG and GPON

  • Radio RF Spectrum

  • Active and Passive RF Devices

  • IP Video Technology

  • SONET

  • WDM Transport

  • DOCSIS 3.1

  • Wireless Technology – LTE, 3G, 4G, 5G

  • Small Cell Technology

  • AC Power

  • DC Power and DC Power Plants

 

Other Assets:

  • Experience with digital signal and electronic communication standards

  • Experience with telecommunication topology standards

  • Class 5 Drivers License

 

Working Conditions

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals

  • Travel may be required
