Field Survey Technician

Job Summary

The Field Survey Technician is responsible for conducting on-site surveys and gathering essential data to support the planning of telecommunication projects. The technician will utilize specialized equipment to assess site suitability, perform measurements, and identify potential obstacles. They will collaborate closely with the engineering and project management teams to ensure accurate data collection and provide technical support. Additionally, the Field Survey Technician will maintain meticulous records, produce detailed reports, and adhere to safety guidelines throughout the surveying process.

Job Duties

  • Perform multiple field walk-out assignments on a daily basis over varying terrain and weather conditions.

  • Travel to different work sites.

  • Hand draft field routing plan for the location. Drawings to include existing route (duct, vaults, pole line and applicable electronics) to point of service.

  • Utilize GIS hardware and software to collect data on existing aerial support structures.

  • Deliver and communicate survey results with design team.

  • Complete work on time, on scope and within budget to ensure company objectives are met.

  • Ensure that communication with clients and peers is done in a professional manner.

  • Learn to adapt to new standards in a changing client environment.

  • Update records when tasks or projects are completed.

  • Show a strong work ethic with attention to detail.

  • Participate in account management responsibilities.

  • Self-motivated, works well with minimum or no direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent

  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Class 5 Drivers License

 

Other Assets:

  • Experience with digital signal and electronic communication standards

  • Experience in the Telecommunications industry

  • Utility walkout or construction experience

  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field

 

Working Conditions

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals

  • Standing 6 to 8 hours daily

  • Walking 6 to 8 hours daily

  • Writing 6 to 8 hours daily

  • Travel may be required
