OSP Field Survey Technician

Summary 

MLT is seeking an entry level OSP Field Survey Technician who is interested to gain experience in the telecommunications industry. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and demonstrate a strong technical aptitude with a willingness to continually gain knowledge in the evolving telecommunications industry. 

As an OSP Field Survey Technician you will work on individually assigned tasks or client driven projects. The OSP Field Survey Technician position also entails collaborating within a strong team environment.

Job Duties 

  • Perform multiple field walk-out assignments on a daily basis over varying terrain and weather conditions. 

  • Travel to different work sites throughout New Brunswick 

  • Hand draft field routing plan for the location. Drawings to include existing route (duct, vaults, pole line and applicable electronics) to point of service 

  •  Utilize GIS hardware and software to collect data on existing aerial support structures o Training and equipment will be provided 

  •  

  • Deliver and communicate survey results with design team 

  • Complete work on time, on scope and within budget to ensure company objectives are met. 

  • Ensure that communication with clients and peers is done in a professional manner. 

  • Learn to adapt to new standards in a changing client environment. 

  • Provide support on various design projects. 

  • Ability to write, read and comprehend technical documents and apply the information. 

  • Complete accurate drawings in CAD, Visio or other formats. 

  • Update records when tasks or projects are completed. 

  • Be willing to undertake other tasks or responsibilities, within your skill set, that would benefit MLT and could help you grow within the company. 

  • Adhere to all applicable Health and Safety regulations, as per company policy. 

  • Show a strong work ethic with attention to detail. 

  • Participate in account management responsibilities. 

  • Self-motivated works well with minimum or no direct supervision 

 

Requirements 

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent 

  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) 

  • Class 5 Drivers License 

 

Other Assets: 

  • Experience with a digital signal and electronic communication standards 

  • Experience in the Telecommunications industry 

  • Utility walkout or construction experience 

  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals 

  • Standing 6 to 8 hours daily 

  • Walking 6 to 8 hours daily 

  • Writing/Drafting – 6 to 8 hours daily 

  • Travel may be required
